Product Description

These socks would be ideal for intermediate sock knitters who would like to try adding a festive themed lace pattern to their socks.

The designfor these socks was inspired by the holiday season. I wanted a festive lace pattern design that would instantly make everyone think of that most wonderful time of the year. My candy cane lace pattern is a very straightforward pattern to follow - it is an 8-stitch pattern repeat and the size of this sock can easily be adapted to a larger or smaller size. I’m also hoping to help knitters understand how cuff down socks with a traditional gusset develop with this very simple yet elegant sock pattern.

Pattern contains links to three tutorial videos on my YouTube channel to help with various techniques used while knitting these socks.

What is Being Made

The Candy Cane Socks are a pair of festive holiday-themed socks designed for intermediate knitters. These cuff-down socks feature a charming lace pattern inspired by the candy cane, making them an ideal project for knitters looking to add decorative lace elements to their sock designs. The pattern is available in a medium size with an 8-inch (20.3 cm) finished foot circumference, though the design can be easily adapted for larger or smaller sizes.

Techniques Used

This sock pattern employs several essential sock-knitting techniques suitable for intermediate-level crafters. The socks are constructed using the cuff-down method, which begins at the top of the sock and works downward toward the toe. The pattern includes a traditional gusset, a structural element that creates shaping at the heel area for improved fit and comfort. The design also incorporates lace patterning, which adds visual interest through strategically placed yarn overs and decreases that create an openwork design reminiscent of candy canes.

Stitches Used

The Candy Cane Socks utilize a straightforward 8-stitch pattern repeat for the lace design, making the pattern accessible and easy to follow for intermediate knitters. The lace pattern is described as simple yet elegant, combining basic knitting stitches with yarn overs and decreases to create the festive candy cane motif. The pattern works with a cast-on of 64 stitches for the medium size.

  • Needles: 2.25mm double-pointed needles in a set of five, the standard tool for traditional sock knitting in the round
  • Notions: One stitch marker to track pattern repeats and round beginnings
  • Gauge: 32 stitches and 44 rows per 10 centimeters when measured after blocking, essential for achieving the correct finished dimensions

This pattern is provided as a free downloadable PDF resource, making it an excellent choice for intermediate knitters seeking to expand their sock-knitting skills with a holiday-themed project that combines traditional construction methods with festive lace design elements.
