3 Accessories
Product Description
Cablewings surrounded by lace gives these accessories a flowery expression. They coordinate with the Cablewing Sweater; for a wonderfully regal look pair the wrap with the sweater. It is warm, practical but also decorative. All accessories are knitted in a pure wool with bounce, Embla from Hifa. I chose an irresistible purple-pink shade, well suited for the stitch pattern, for the cowl and the wristwarmers. Wrap, cowl and wrist warmers are worked in the round, while tweed cowl is worked flat. Cablewing Accessories pattern is available in both English and Norwegian (på norsk).
Cablewing Accessories by Linda Marveng
Overview
The Cablewing Accessories collection features three coordinating knitted pieces designed to work together or independently: a wrap, cowl, and wristwarmers. Each accessory showcases cable stitch patterns surrounded by delicate lace, creating a flowery, decorative aesthetic. These intermediate-level knitting projects are designed to coordinate with the Cablewing Sweater, allowing crafters to create a cohesive, regal ensemble. The accessories combine warmth and practicality with elegant stitch work suitable for both everyday wear and special occasions.
Cablewing Wrap
The wrap is a substantial accessory measuring 100 cm (39.5 inches) in circumference and 44 cm (17.25 inches) in height. This piece features the signature cable and lace combination that defines the Cablewing collection. The wrap's generous dimensions make it versatile for draping and styling, while the cable stitch pattern provides structural interest and visual depth.
Cablewing Cowl
The cowl measures 77 cm (30.25 inches) in circumference and 30 cm (11.75 inches) in height, making it a comfortable neckwear option. Like the wrap, it features cable stitches interspersed with lace elements. The cowl is knitted in a purple-pink shade of Embla yarn, a color choice that enhances the visibility and beauty of the stitch pattern.
Cablewing Wristwarmers
The wristwarmers are fitted accessories measuring 24 cm (9.5 inches) in circumference and 30 cm (11.75 inches) in height. These pieces provide warmth and decorative detail at the wrists, and like the cowl, are worked in the same purple-pink Embla yarn, creating a coordinated look when worn together.
Tweed Cowl Variation
The pattern also includes a Tweed Cowl variation, a square-shaped accessory measuring 48 cm (19 inches) in both circumference and height. This alternative cowl design offers another styling option within the Cablewing Accessories collection.
Techniques and Stitches
Cable Stitches: The defining feature of these accessories is the cable stitch pattern, which creates twisted, rope-like columns of texture. Cable stitches are formed by crossing groups of stitches over one another, requiring the use of a cable needle to temporarily hold stitches while working subsequent stitches out of order. This technique creates dimensional, sculptural effects that are both visually striking and structurally sound.
Lace Stitches: Complementing the cables, lace stitches are incorporated throughout the designs. Lace is created through strategic yarn overs and decreases that form openwork patterns and create an airy, delicate aesthetic. The combination of solid cable stitches with open lace creates visual contrast and a flowery expression.
Knitting Construction: These are intermediate-level knitting projects, indicating that crafters should be comfortable with fundamental knitting techniques and ready to tackle more complex stitch patterns and shaping. The accessories are worked in the round or flat depending on the specific piece, requiring competency with both construction methods.
Materials
All Cablewing Accessories are knitted using Embla yarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk, a pure wool yarn with excellent bounce and elasticity. Embla is classified as Hifa 3 weight, a medium-weight yarn suitable for creating garments with good drape and structure. The yarn composition is 100% wool, providing warmth, durability, and the elasticity necessary for complex stitch patterns like cables and lace.
The wrap requires 3 skeins of Natural shade 6057, totaling 567 meters (620 yards). The cowl and wristwarmers are worked in a purple-pink shade, though specific yardage requirements for individual pieces are referenced in the pattern. The yarn's 210 meters (229 yards) per 100-gram skein makes it suitable for these accessories while providing the weight and structure needed for cables to display properly.
