Product Description
A distinguished design for the woman with a passion for texture and intrigue. I love textural designs, and when the desire to put the skills into functional items people can, and will use meld, it is a homerun.
I chose Cascade Yarns new Noble Cotton because it has all the qualities needed to make this design a full on Indulgence. The yarn is soft, with a nice twist. It did not split, or frey, even when I had to pull back to redo a section. Mercerized Cotton will hold the color, and with 60 shades available, there are options for every heart’s passion. This yarn will not shrink when laundered following the label instructions.
This pattern is not new beginner friendly, as it requires a working knowledge of Post stitches, and working in spiral rounds. It is feasible for an advanced beginner to be successful, if that person has a trusting spirit and desire to try new things.
Cabled Diamonds Handbag by Becky Dirlam
Project Overview
The Cabled Diamonds Handbag is a textured crochet design created by Becky Dirlam of Indulge Crochet Designs. This intermediate-level project combines functional craftsmanship with sophisticated texture work, resulting in a distinctive handbag suitable for everyday use. The design emphasizes visual interest through dimensional stitch techniques, making it an ideal project for crocheters seeking to expand their skills beyond basic stitches.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a finished handbag featuring prominent cable and diamond textures. The design is intended as a practical accessory that showcases advanced crochet techniques while remaining wearable and functional for daily use.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Cabled Diamonds Handbag requires working knowledge of several intermediate to advanced crochet techniques:
- Post Stitches: These dimensional stitches are essential to creating the cable and diamond effects that define the handbag's texture. Post stitches work around the post of previous stitches rather than into the top loops, creating raised, dimensional fabric.
- Spiral Rounds: The pattern utilizes spiral round construction, a technique where rounds are worked continuously without joining, creating seamless circular sections.
The pattern is not recommended for new beginners due to these technical requirements. However, advanced beginners with confidence in trying new techniques may successfully complete this project.
Stitches Used
While specific individual stitch names are not detailed in the pattern overview, the design relies on post stitch variations to create the cabled diamond texture work that forms the handbag's primary visual and structural elements.
Materials
Yarn: The pattern was designed and tested using Cascade Yarns Noble Cotton, a mercerized cotton yarn in DK weight. This yarn selection offers several practical advantages: the soft fiber has a pleasant twist that prevents splitting or fraying even when reworking sections. Mercerized cotton maintains color vibrancy and will not shrink when laundered according to label instructions. Noble Cotton is available in 60 color shades, providing extensive options for personalization.
Tools: A crochet hook appropriate for DK weight yarn is required, though the specific hook size is not specified in the provided overview.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. Success requires prior experience with post stitches and spiral round construction. The design is accessible to advanced beginners willing to challenge themselves with new techniques.
