Product Description

This is a corner to corner crochet version of my Sheep chart, this version includes a c2c picture chart and a colour-coded written version for those who prefer to follow worded instructions. I have also included a "how to corner to corner crochet" guide for those who might not have crocheted an image. The guide also has a border option for those who may want to add a decorative edge to their finished blanket.

The finished blanket will be a different size depending on the yarn you use (using 4ply gives you a lovely baby blanket size)

Sizes - 4ply: 60x70cm, DK: 80x90 cm, Aran: 90x100cm, Chunky: 100x110cm

C2C Sheep Corner to Corner Blanket by Instarsia

What Is Being Made

This is a corner to corner crochet blanket featuring a sheep design. The C2C (corner to corner) technique creates a blanket that grows diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner, resulting in a finished piece with a charming sheep motif worked into the fabric. This blanket serves as both a functional throw and a decorative home accessory suitable for bedding, furniture draping, or gifting.

Crochet Techniques

The project uses the corner to corner crochet method, a popular technique that builds the blanket diagonally rather than in traditional rows. This approach offers several advantages: it minimizes color changes by working in blocks, creates a sturdy and durable fabric, and allows crafters to follow a pixel-based chart similar to cross-stitch patterns. The technique is particularly well-suited for creating graphical designs like the sheep pictured in this pattern.

The pattern employs color work to render the sheep design using a provided picture chart. Crafters select different yarn colors to match the chart blocks, creating the image as they work. The chart indicates specific yardage requirements for each color: Meadow (928 yards), Black (238 yards), White (355 yards), and Camel (195 yards).

Stitches Used

While specific stitch names are not detailed in the provided materials, corner to corner crochet typically relies on double crochet stitches as the primary stitch, worked in blocks to create the pixelated design effect. The technique builds incrementally, increasing stitches to expand outward, then decreasing to complete the diagonal shape.

Materials and Yarn

This project is designed for DK weight yarn, a medium-light yarn weight that provides good stitch definition for detailed colorwork while remaining manageable for intermediate-level crocheters. The total yardage across all four colors is approximately 1,716 yards. A standard crochet hook appropriate for DK weight yarn (typically sizes E/3.5mm to F/3.75mm) is required, though the exact hook size should be confirmed in the full pattern instructions.

Difficulty Level

Rated as intermediate, this blanket requires crocheters to have foundational skills including basic stitches and color changes. The corner to corner technique itself is learnable for those new to it, but managing multiple yarn colors and following a detailed chart demands attention to detail and some prior crochet experience.

Pattern Format and Designer

This is a downloadable PDF pattern designed by Instarsia (EJ Heywood). The pattern includes a detailed picture chart showing the sheep design across an 82-row by 82-column grid. The designer notes that Instarsia charts are interchangeable and can be adapted for knitting or other crochet applications beyond corner to corner, making this a versatile resource for crafters exploring different techniques.
