Product Description
This is a corner to corner crochet version of my Crocodile chart, this version includes a c2c picture chart and a colour-coded written version for those who prefer to follow worded instructions. I have also included a "how to corner to corner crochet" guide for those who might not have crocheted an image. The guide also has a border option for those who may want to add a decorative edge to their finished blanket.
The finished blanket will be a different size depending on the yarn you use (using 4ply gives you a lovely baby blanket size)
Sizes - 4ply: 60x70cm, DK: 80x90 cm, Aran: 90x100cm, Chunky: 100x110cm
C2C Crocodile Corner to Corner Blanket
Project Overview
This is a corner to corner crochet blanket featuring a crocodile design, created by designer EJHeywood from Instarsia. The blanket is worked using the popular corner to corner (C2C) technique, which builds the project diagonally from one corner to the opposite corner. This method is ideal for creating graphical, picture-based designs with precise color placement and detail.
Craft and Technique
The project uses crochet as the primary craft method. Corner to corner crochet is an intermediate-level technique that involves working in a diagonal direction across the blanket, building up stitches as you progress. This method allows crafters to follow a pixel-based chart to create detailed images and patterns. The technique is particularly popular for creating blankets with pictorial designs because it provides excellent stitch definition and color control.
Instarsia notes that their charts are interchangeable and versatile—while designed for corner to corner crochet, the same pattern chart can be adapted for knitting or traditional crochet methods, giving crafters flexibility in their approach.
Stitches and Construction
Corner to corner crochet typically employs basic crochet stitches, most commonly double crochet or treble crochet, worked in a grid pattern following the provided chart. The diagonal construction method creates a sturdy, structured blanket with even tension throughout. The chart provided contains 82 rows and 82 columns, indicating a substantial finished size suitable for a throw or full blanket.
Materials and Yarn
This project is designed for DK weight yarn, which is a medium-weight yarn that works well for creating defined stitches and clear color transitions in graphical crochet work. The color palette includes Cloud White, Yellow, Green, and Black, with yardage requirements of approximately 1115 yards for Cloud White, 170 yards for Yellow, 140 yards for Green, and 283 yards for Black. Standard crochet hooks appropriate for DK weight yarn are used, typically in the H/8 (5mm) to I/9 (5.5mm) range, though the specific hook size would be detailed in the full pattern instructions.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are comfortable following charts and managing color changes. The corner to corner technique requires attention to stitch placement and chart reading but rewards crafters with a striking, professional-looking finished blanket.
