Brevis
Nothing hugs your feet quite like a pair of ribbed socks. Brevis uses twisted ribbing to give this simple sock a beautifully structured look. The heel is constructed with a heel flap and turned using a German or band heel turn. These are great unisex socks, and perfect for the whole family.

Brevis Socks by Clare Devine
What is Being Made
Brevis is a knitted sock pattern designed by independent designer Clare Devine. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a complete pair of socks using fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginners entering sock construction.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project uses knitting as both the primary and sole craft method. Knitting is an ancient textile technique that creates fabric by interlocking loops of yarn using two needles. For sock knitting specifically, crafters typically work in the round using either circular needles or double-pointed needles to create seamless, tubular fabric that conforms naturally to the foot shape.
Stitches and Construction
The Brevis pattern includes detailed abbreviations and stitch guidance within its pages. Sock patterns typically employ fundamental knitting stitches including knit and purl stitches as the foundation, often combined into ribbed sections for stretch and fit around the leg and calf. The pattern notes section provides specific construction guidance for shaping the heel, foot, and toe sections that are essential to sock architecture.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
Brevis is designed for 4-ply yarn, a lightweight yarn weight that produces fine, durable fabric ideal for socks. Four-ply yarn (also called fingering weight) creates excellent stitch definition and allows for detailed colorwork or texture if desired. The pattern specifies required materials and gauge information to ensure proper fit and fabric characteristics in the finished socks.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as beginner difficulty, making it an excellent introduction to sock knitting for crafters new to circular needle techniques or in-the-round construction. The beginner classification indicates that pattern instructions are clearly written and do not require advanced shaping techniques or complex stitch patterns.
