Product Description
This pattern is crocheted flat and joined at either end to create a slip-on mug cozie.
It features bobbles and should fit most mugs but can be adjusted to any mug size.
Any worsted weight yarn can be used for this pattern, so it is great for using up scrap yarn.
I hope you enjoy making these bobble mug cozies as much as I did so they can brighten up your morning coffee or tea! (Or hot chocolate, no one is judging.)
A video tutorial can be found on my channel, Rainy Day Crochet.
Bobble Mug Cozie by Rainy Day Crochet
What Is Being Made
The Bobble Mug Cozie is a quick crochet project designed to add a decorative and functional covering to standard coffee mugs. This cozie wraps around the body of a mug to provide insulation and aesthetic appeal. The finished cozie measures 3.5 inches (9 centimeters) tall and 10 inches (25 centimeters) wide, making it suitable for mugs with adequate space on both the top and bottom edges. The designer created this pattern as an alternative to purchasing additional mugs, offering a way to refresh and personalize existing drinkware.
Project Overview and Inspiration
This is an ideal beginner-level crochet project that can be completed quickly, often within a single sitting. The pattern is straightforward enough that crafters could produce multiple cozies in one session if desired. The designer developed this pattern after seeking a creative change from their daily routine, transforming the simple mug into a personalized accessory.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Bobble Mug Cozie utilizes fundamental crochet techniques suitable for beginners. The pattern incorporates chain stitches (CH) as a foundational element in construction. The design features bobble stitches, which create textured, three-dimensional details that give the cozie its distinctive name and visual interest. These techniques combine to produce a fabric with decorative texture while maintaining ease of construction.
Materials Required
Yarn: The pattern calls for 7 to 9 yards of medium weight yarn, classified as weight 4 (Aran). Sample cozies were created using Caron One Pound yarn in two colorways: Soft Grey Mix and Sunflower, demonstrating the pattern's versatility with different yarn colors.
Tools: A US-H/5.0mm crochet hook is required for this project. A yarn needle is needed for finishing and weaving in ends.
Gauge: The pattern specifies a gauge of 11.5 stitches by 10 rows over a 4x4 inch (10x10 centimeter) swatch, providing guidance for achieving proper sizing and fabric drape.
Mug Compatibility Considerations
When selecting a mug for this cozie, it is essential to choose one with adequate space along both the top and bottom edges. The cozie is designed to sit on the mug body without covering the rim or extending below the base, ensuring proper fit and functionality. This consideration ensures the mug remains usable while wearing the cozie.
