Product Description

Warm, practical and pretty, Blossomy is a quick knit with a delicate stitch pattern and an eye-catching knit detail. Using three different yarns, there’s plenty of opportunity for playing with color and stash busting.

The band is knitted using the mohair + MC yarn held together throughout. The CC yarn is used on its own. The band is knitted as a tube, with the ends forming two loops that knot together.

You'll need approx. 135 m / 150 yds of fingering weight yarn; 100 m / 110 yds in MC and 35 m / 40 yds of CC, and 125 m / 137 yds of fingering weight mohair yarn. The sample is knit using Tukuwool Fingering in Sake as MC, Rowan Mohair Haze in shade 00523, and Rauma Finullgarn in 4087 Peach as CC.

Blossomy Knit Headwear by Lina Knits

What Is Being Made

Blossomy is a warm and practical knit headwear design created by designer Pauliina Karru of Lina Knits. This downloadable knitting pattern produces a quick-to-knit hat or headpiece that combines functionality with decorative appeal. The finished piece features a delicate stitch pattern enhanced by an eye-catching knot detail that adds visual interest and texture to the design.

Yarn Materials and Weight

Blossomy is designed to work with multiple yarn weights and types, offering flexibility for creative color play and stash busting. The pattern calls for three different yarns:

  • Main Color (MC): Approximately 100 meters / 110 yards of fingering weight yarn, such as Tukuwool Fingering (100% wool; 195 m / 213 yds per 50 g skein)
  • Contrast Color (CC): Approximately 35 meters / 40 yards of fingering weight yarn, such as Rauma Finullgarn (100% wool; 175 m / 191 yds per 50 g skein)
  • Mohair Yarn: Approximately 125 meters / 137 yards of fingering weight mohair yarn, requiring 2 skeins of Rowan Mohair Haze (70% mohair, 30% wool; 102 m / 112 yds per 25 g skein)

The combination of standard wool fingering weight with a mohair blend creates a luxurious, lightweight fabric with subtle sheen and warmth without excessive bulk.

Needles and Tools

This pattern requires 3.5 mm / US 4 needles in your preferred type for small circumference knitting, or the size needed to obtain the correct gauge. Additional tools include scrap yarn for provisional cast-on or other techniques, a stitch marker for marking the beginning of round, and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and finishing.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

Blossomy is rated as an intermediate difficulty pattern, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond basic stockinette stitch. The design incorporates a delicate stitch pattern that adds visual texture and interest to the headwear. The signature knot detail serves as a focal point and demonstrates shaping or decorative techniques that elevate the piece beyond a simple hat construction.

The pattern employs small circumference knitting techniques, which are essential for creating fitted headwear. This method typically involves working in the round on circular needles or double-pointed needles to achieve seamless construction and proper fit around the head.

Design Features

The use of three distinct yarns—fingering weight wool in main and contrast colors combined with a mohair blend—allows knitters to experiment with color combinations and create personalized variations. This multi-yarn approach makes Blossomy an excellent pattern for stash busting, as it requires relatively small yardages of each component. The quick-knit nature of the project, combined with its practical warmth and pretty aesthetic, makes it an accessible intermediate project that delivers professional-looking results.
