Product Description
A lovely light-weight cardigan with patterning on the fronts and centre of sleeves. The pattern on the fronts is divided into blocks of the mock cable and eyelet pattern with a subtle wide broken rib at each side. The broken rib is also worked on the back and sleeves. The 2x2 rib make neat borders to this cardigan.

Blossom Cardigan by Pat Menchini
What is Being Made
Blossom is a knitted cardigan designed by Pat Menchini, available in six size options ranging from 76/81 cm to 137/142 cm bust measurements. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a fitted cardigan with a button front closure, featuring a length from shoulder of approximately 56 to 62 cm depending on size selection. The cardigan includes set-in sleeves with a seam length ranging from 43 to 46 cm across the size range.
Yarn and Materials
Blossom is knitted using Rico-Design Fashion Cotton Light & Long, a DK weight yarn that provides 200 metres (219 yards) per 50g ball. The pattern calls for Purple Mix 004 shade, with yarn requirements varying by size from 5 to 7 balls of 50g. The project also requires 6 buttons for the front closure and two pairs of knitting needles: 3.25 mm (UK 10, US 3) and 4 mm (UK 8, US 6).
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This intermediate cardigan employs a stitch pattern worked across the back and body pieces. The pattern requires careful tension work to achieve the correct fabric drape and fit. Knitters will work with both needle sizes, using the smaller needles for ribbed edgings and the larger needles for the main stitch pattern. The construction involves shaping for the armholes and sleeve cap, as well as button band finishing.
Tension and Gauge
Achieving the correct tension is essential for this project. The pattern specifies 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm (4 inches) over the stitch pattern using 4 mm needles. Knitters are advised to test tension before beginning and adjust needle sizes accordingly—using finer needles if tension is too loose or larger needles if tension is too tight.
