Beccs Cardigan by Isabell Kraemer
What is Being Made
Beccs is a lovely open front cardigan featuring decorative cables that travel down both front panels. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a versatile layering piece available in six sizes ranging from extra small through triple extra large, with finished cross back measurements from 40 cm (15¾ inches) to 68¾ cm (27½ inches).
Knitting Techniques Used
This cardigan employs several fundamental and intermediate knitting techniques to create its distinctive design. The garment is constructed using circular needles to work seamlessly, allowing for efficient construction and the ability to try on the piece as you progress. Cable work forms the signature design element, with cables running vertically down the front panels to create visual interest and texture. The pattern utilizes both circular needles for larger circumferences and double-pointed needles or magic loop technique for working smaller circumferences in the round, demonstrating a well-rounded approach to garment construction.
Stitches and Stitch Details
While the complete stitch pattern details are referenced on page 6 of the schematic, the cardigan prominently features cable stitches as its primary decorative element. The gauge is worked at 16 stitches by 24 rows over a 10 by 10 centimeter (4 by 4 inch) swatch, which is essential for achieving proper fit across all six size options.
