The pattern for this wardrobe includes a rainbow jacket for celebrating Pride, a party jacket with options for embellishment if Bear is celebrating Hanukkah, Diwali, Christmas, Matariki, or Chinese New Year. All charts are included in the pattern. Pattern for making the Bear itself is not included but can be found in my other listings. It is called Bear in a Box.
Bear's Celebration Wardrobe by Charlotte Marjoribanks
Bear's Celebration Wardrobe is a collection of knitted toys and garments designed by Charlotte Marjoribanks. This downloadable PDF pattern set features multiple festive and culturally-inspired designs created using intermediate-level knitting techniques. The collection combines colorwork charting with traditional knitting methods to produce wearable pieces suitable for toy bears and similar stuffed animals.
Valentines Jumper
The Valentines Jumper is a charted colorwork design featuring pink and white yarn in a festive pattern. This piece demonstrates stranded colorwork knitting, a technique where multiple yarn colors are carried across the back of the work to create patterned designs on the fabric surface. The chart uses numbered cells to indicate stitch counts within each color section, eliminating the need for manual counting and reducing errors during knitting.
- Color pattern combines pink and white yarns in defined sections
- Floats (stranded yarn carried across the back) must be caught and secured across stretches exceeding 5 stitches in a single color to prevent loose loops
- Chart includes round numbers marked in grey cells for reference during circular knitting
- Red border indicates the repeating section of the pattern for efficient chart reading
Chinese New Year Jacket
The Chinese New Year Jacket is a charted design incorporating festive cultural elements. This intermediate-level pattern uses colorwork charting across 22 rows to create a detailed motif suitable for toy-sized garments.
Diya Chart Design
The Diya Chart represents another culturally-inspired motif within the collection, spanning 22 rows of charted colorwork. This design element can be integrated into garments using standard stranded colorwork techniques.
Pleiades Constellation - The Stars of Matariki
The Pleiades Constellation design features star motifs inspired by Matariki, the Māori New Year. This 22-row charted pattern offers flexibility in construction method. Knitters may choose to work the chart upside down and incorporate beads during the knitting process, creating dimensional star embellishments as the fabric is constructed. Alternatively, the design can be executed using standard colorwork techniques without beading.
- Star motifs represent the Pleiades star cluster
- Optional bead integration requires working the chart in reverse orientation
- Beads are applied during knitting rather than sewn on afterward
- Provides flexibility for both beaded and non-beaded interpretations
Materials and Construction
Bear's Celebration Wardrobe uses 4-ply yarn weight, a lightweight yarn suitable for creating detailed colorwork and appropriately-scaled garments for toy bears. The intermediate difficulty level assumes knitters are comfortable with basic stitches, chart reading, and colorwork techniques. Standard knitting needles appropriate to the yarn weight are required, along with optional beads for the Matariki design variation. The downloadable PDF format provides instant access to all charts and pattern instructions for immediate use.
