Product Description
This is a pattern for a square crochet doily, table topper, made with cotton thread size ten (such as Aunt Lydia’s, about 300 yards) and a steel hook 1.5 mm. The finished doily measures about 13 inches across one side after blocking. The skill level is intermediate. There aren’t any fancy or complicated stitches in this pattern; however, I wouldn’t recommend it to beginners! There are lots of repeating instructions within repeating instructions, which make the pattern long and complicated. But I did try to make it as detailed as possible, and I included lots of explanatory notes, as well as pictures for visual help. The pattern is written in English using the US crochet terminology (no symbol chart available). This pattern is my original design and cannot be redistributed. However, you have the permission to sell finished items made from this pattern.
Anastasia Square Doily by Olga Poltava
Project Overview
The Anastasia Square Doily is an intermediate-level crochet design by Olga Poltava, perfect for creating elegant table settings. This downloadable crochet pattern produces a finished square doily measuring approximately 13 inches, making it an ideal accent piece for decorative home décor or as a functional table topper.
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a delicate square doily suitable for table settings and home decoration. The finished piece measures about 13 inches square, providing a versatile size for use on side tables, under decorative items, or as a charming table accent. The doily can be made for personal use or for sale when properly credited to the designer.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
The Anastasia Square Doily employs intermediate-level crochet techniques that require familiarity with fundamental stitches and stitch combinations. The pattern utilizes several specialized techniques including decrease stitches and cluster stitches to create the intricate structure. Crafters will work with repeat sections marked by asterisks, requiring attention to stitch counts and pattern placement throughout the project.
Stitches Used
- Chain stitch (ch) – foundational stitch for creating the base and openwork sections
- Slip stitch (sl st) – used for joining rounds and connecting sections
- Double crochet (dc) – primary stitch providing structure and density
- Double crochet decreases (dc2-tog, dc3-tog, dc4-tog) – multiple decrease variations that shape the doily and create decorative shaping
- Double crochet clusters (dc3-cl) – three double crochets worked into the same stitch and finished together, creating textured focal points
Materials and Tools
This pattern calls for fine materials suitable for delicate, detailed work. Crafters will need a steel hook in 1.5 mm size, which is appropriately scaled for working with fine thread. The yarn material is crochet cotton thread in size 10, with approximately 300 yards required to complete the project. The use of steel hooks and cotton thread ensures the finished doily maintains its shape and creates the crisp, defined stitches characteristic of traditional doily work.
Pattern Details
The pattern is written using US crochet terminology and is presented as a downloadable PDF format for convenient reference during crafting. The intermediate skill level indicates that crafters should have solid foundational knowledge of basic crochet stitches and be comfortable following pattern instructions with stitch abbreviations and repeat sequences. The pattern was originally designed by Olga Poltava in January 2019.
