Knitting Techniques and Construction

This blanket is worked in the round from the center outward, making it an excellent project for knitters seeking to master circular construction methods. The pattern offers flexibility in technique, supporting multiple approaches to working in the round. Knitters may use the Magic Loop method with a single circular needle, or alternatively work with two circular needles if preferred. The spoke motif radiates outward along the garter stitch foundation, creating visual interest and dimension as the blanket expands from the center point.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The primary stitch foundation is garter stitch, which provides a stable, textured background for the radiating spokes. The spoke pattern creates linear design elements that extend from the center, contrasting with the bumpy texture of the garter background. Materials Required

Yarn: Worsted or chunky weight yarn is specified for this project. Total yardage varies significantly depending on which sections and size options are worked:

• Section 1: approximately 15 yards
• Section 2: approximately 20 yards
• Section 3: approximately 15 yards
• Section 4: approximately 150 yards
• Section 5: approximately 35 yards
• Section 6: approximately 420 yards
• Section 7: approximately 70 yards (adult and baby ruffle options only)
• Section 8: up to approximately 1700 yards (adult size only)
• Lace Edging: approximately 200 yards for baby size; 400 yards for adult size and baby ruffle option

Needles: US 8 (5 mm) circular needles, at least 40 inches in length, are used for the main body of the blanket. If using the Magic Loop method for smaller diameters, a shorter needle may be substituted. US 10 (6 mm) needles are recommended for the bind-off, in any needle style preferred by the knitter. Two circular needles may be used as an alternative to Magic Loop for working in the round.

Notions: At least one stitch marker is required; additional markers are recommended for tracking pattern repeats and section transitions throughout the project.

Gauge and Finished Dimensions

Gauge is established in Section 1 (Rounds 1–16), which measures 6 inches in diameter when lightly blocked. The sample blanket shown in the pattern measures 40 inches in diameter when complete. Knitters can adjust needle sizes and yarn weights to achieve different finished sizes, with the pattern structure accommodating small diameter variations through needle and construction method adjustments.
