Product Description
Fingerless GLOVES, not mittens – don’t be fooled! Fingerless gloves are a much better fit. They lovingly wrap and cuddle each finger, so that there is no unfortunate gaping around the hand.
This pattern is available two ways – either as a pattern with instructional videos, or as a pattern only. This listing is for the PATTERN ONLY. The pattern + videos page can be found here.
Amirah Fingerless Gloves by Staci Perry
What Is Being Made
The Amirah Fingerless Gloves are a pair of knitted hand coverings that leave the fingers exposed while providing warmth to the wrists and palms. This beginner-friendly knitting pattern creates striped fingerless mittens using a classic construction method suitable for knitters new to circular needle techniques.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project uses knitting as the primary craft method. The gloves are constructed using circular knitting on double-pointed needles, which allows for seamless, tubular fabric creation. This technique is ideal for small circumference projects like mittens and gloves, eliminating the need for seaming after completion.
Stitches Used
The Amirah Fingerless Gloves feature the following stitches:
- 2x2 Rib – The primary stitch pattern used throughout the cuff and hand sections. This stitch creates vertical columns of knit and purl stitches that alternate in groups of two, producing an elastic, textured fabric that hugs the wrist and hand comfortably.
- Knit Stitch – Used for transition rounds between color changes to create clean stripes without disrupting the rib pattern.
Construction Details
The pattern begins with a cuff section worked in 2x2 rib, establishing the foundation for the gloves. Stitches are distributed across three double-pointed needles: 16 stitches on one needle and 12 stitches each on the other two needles, for a total of 40 cast-on stitches. The construction incorporates multiple color changes worked in a striped sequence, with knit rounds separating each new color section to maintain pattern clarity.
Materials and Yarn
The Amirah Fingerless Gloves require 200 yards of worsted-weight wool yarn. The pattern is designed for multi-color striping, allowing knitters to choose their own color combinations. The original pattern example uses Queensland Collection Rustic Tweed in three colors: Gold, Rust, and Wedgewood Blue. Worsted-weight yarn is a medium-thickness yarn that works up quickly and provides excellent stitch definition for the rib pattern.
Tools and Equipment
This project requires Size 7 US double-pointed needles to work the yarn at the appropriate gauge for the pattern. Additional materials include scrap yarn for stitch holders or markers and a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends after completion.
Difficulty Level
The Amirah Fingerless Gloves are rated as a beginner difficulty project, making them an excellent choice for knitters learning to work with circular needles and manage color changes in a structured pattern.
