Product Description
In Greek mythology, the Alseids were the nymphs of the glens and the groves. They liked to scare travelers. We’ll call them mischievous. This lovely hat will make you look like a wood nymph, with its leafy brim and its cabled trees. Worked up in a cozy worsted weight yarn, it can be done in two colors, or all in one. This pattern is only given in charted form for the leaf brim and the tree dome. Both stitch patterns are slight variations of patterns from the Barbara Walker Treasuries – always a source of great inspiration.
This pattern was created for the Nude Ewe, and $2 of each pattern sold will go to this very important non-profit. It concerns sheep, so of course it's very important!

What is Being Made
The Alseid Hat is a knitted hat inspired by Greek mythology, specifically the Alseids—nymphs of glens and groves known for their mischievous nature. Techniques and Stitch Patterns
This intermediate-level knitting project combines two primary stitch patterns to achieve its nature-inspired design. Both stitch patterns are variations derived from the Barbara Walker Treasuries, a renowned reference source for knitting stitch collections. The hat features a leafy brim section and a domed crown section decorated with cabled tree patterns. The cable work creates dimensional texture that mimics woodland elements, while the leafy brim adds visual interest at the hat's edge.
The hat can be worked in a single color throughout or in two contrasting colors to emphasize the different pattern sections. This two-color option allows crafters to highlight the leafy brim separately from the cabled dome.

Materials and Tools
Yarn: Approximately 190 yards total of worsted weight yarn, distributed as 70 yards for the brim and 120 yards for the dome. The sample shown was worked in Lamb's Pride Worsted in two colors: Kiwi and Oatmeal.
Needles and Notions: Size 7 (4.5 mm) 16-inch circular needles for the main knitting, Size 7 (4.5 mm) double-pointed needles for the crown decreases, cable needle for cable stitches, stitch markers, and a tapestry needle for finishing.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. Crafters should be comfortable with cable knitting techniques, working in the round on circular needles, and reading stitch charts. The 34-stitch chart repeat is noted as unusual, requiring careful attention during pattern work.
