Product Description
Are you looking for a hat with just a little bit of slouch, intriguing ribbing, entertaining cables and all that jazz? Look no farther - “All that Jazz” has everything one would want in the perfect hat. It is seamless, knit from the bottom-up, fully charted while at the same time fully written out … and all that jazz.
Sample is shown in The Plucky Knitter Primo Aran or approx. 200 yards [183 meters] of aran weight yarn that knits up to gauge. The sample is knit with Oatmeal.
Please note that you will really need one entire skein (200 yards [183 meters]) of this yarn to make this hat. I have used up almost the whole skein to make mine.
All that Jazz Hat by Hanna Maciejewska
What is Being Made
All that Jazz is a seamless, one-size-fits-all knit hat designed by Hanna Maciejewska. This intermediate-level project features a subtle slouch silhouette with an approximate finished length of 10.75 inches (27 cm) and is sized to fit head circumferences of 22 to 24 inches (56 to 61 cm). The hat combines functional design with decorative stitch work, making it an engaging project for knitters seeking a balance between wearability and visual interest.
Knitting Techniques
This hat employs several key knitting techniques that contribute to both its structure and aesthetic appeal. The garment is knit seamlessly from the bottom-up, eliminating the need for seaming and creating a smooth, continuous fabric. The design incorporates cable work throughout, which adds textural dimension and visual entertainment to the piece. The subtle slouch is achieved through strategic shaping in the crown, creating a relaxed yet polished silhouette. The pattern is presented in fully charted format alongside written instructions, allowing knitters to choose their preferred method of following the pattern.
Stitches and Stitch Work
The primary stitch elements in All that Jazz include ribbing and cables. The ribbing provides structural integrity and helps the hat maintain its shape, while the cable stitches create the intriguing textural details that define the hat's character. These stitch combinations work together to produce a fabric with both elasticity and visual interest, making the finished hat both comfortable and striking.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This hat is designed to be knit with aran weight yarn. The sample shown in the pattern was created using The Plucky Knitter Primo Aran, a premium blend composed of 75% Merino, 20% Cashmere, and 5% Nylon. One complete skein of this yarn is required, providing approximately 200 yards (183 meters) of yardage. The designer notes that nearly the entire skein is used in the sample hat, so knitters should plan accordingly and have the full skein available before beginning.
Tools and Needles
The pattern calls for US 6 (4 mm) and US 7 (4.5 mm) circular needles in 16-inch (40 cm) length, or double-pointed needles (DPNs) of the same sizes. Additional tools include a cable needle for managing cable stitches, one stitch marker for tracking pattern repeats and shaping points, and a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends upon completion. The use of two needle sizes allows for gauge control and helps create definition between different sections of the hat.
Pattern Format and Accessibility
The All that Jazz pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, offering knitters flexibility in how they access and use the instructions. The dual presentation of both charted and written-out instructions makes this pattern accessible to knitters with different learning preferences and experience levels, though the intermediate difficulty rating suggests some familiarity with cables and seamless construction is beneficial.
