I wanted to try some tie-dye T-shirts 👕 with my grandsons and thoughts I'd try with some onion skins. It was a first attempt/learning process. I boiled the onion skins for an hour 🧅 (several handfuls) along with some oak galls which are supposed to act as a mordant (fixing the dye) The boys tied/clipped/wound/parcelled buttons in their T-shirts in the meantime. Elastic bands proved to be the quickest way but also bulldog clips had an interesting effect as the metal reacted with some black tinges. The colour came out a pale apricot which was a bit disappointing..... Maybe it needed more onion skins or longer simmering? 🤔
