Product Details
This shawl represents a challenge for the more experienced lace knitter. It is worked in the round from the centre out, with four identical triangles forming a square. The name comes from the lace pattern in section D that several friends commented reminded them of the sails of windmills. This in turn reminded me of the rows of windmills at Kinderdijk in the Netherlands.
After vigorous blocking, the shawl measures 44”/112cm across when worked to pattern tension. At pattern tension, one repeat of the 24 stitch and 24 row pattern repeat used in Section D measures 4 1/2” (11.5cm) wide and 3 ½” (9cm) high. Exact tension is not vital but it may affect both the yardage required and the finished size of the shawl.
Both written and charted instructions are given for the lace patterns. It is not necessary to use charts to work this design.
You will need approx. 1200yds of lace weight yarn - if using one of the yarn selections noted you will need only one type, not all three.
