Fairwyn is my grown-up take on my favourite dress from my childhood. Growing up behind the Iron Curtain of Soviet Russia, pretty dresses were hard to come by. One day, my mum surprised me with the most beautiful dress I’d ever seen. (To this day, I don’t know where she managed to find it.) It had a smocked yoke embroidered with tiny, bright flowers and big clusters of French knots.
Fairwyn is a top-down round yoke pullover. It begins with a nod to the smocking but without all the work--a simple slip-stitch pattern does the trick. The girlish embroidery is replaced with a more sophisticated lace design and Japanese bobbles complete the look of the French knots.
