Techniques Used

This is an advanced quilting pattern that assumes a solid foundation in quilting terminology and technique. Quilters working through this project will employ several classic and intermediate-to-advanced patchwork methods:

• Half Square Triangles (HSTs) – constructed using the two-at-a-time method, drawing a diagonal line on the wrong side of squares, sewing ¼" seams on each side of the line, cutting along the drawn line, and pressing open to yield two HSTs per pair of squares. Each block requires 4 HSTs measuring 2¾" x 2¾".
• Triangle unit assembly – D triangles are sewn sequentially to HSTs to build larger compound units (Unit 1), requiring careful pressing and accurate piecing to maintain points
• Precise cutting and labeling – the pattern instructs quilters to label pieces as they are cut and to keep matching A and B squares together as sets, which is essential for maintaining print coordination across all 20 blocks
• Open seam pressing – all seam allowances are pressed open throughout to reduce bulk, a technique particularly important when working with multiple triangle units layered together
