Poinsettia Christmas Ornament

The pretty poinsettia plant is a fabulous holiday favourite. As it is quite hard to suspend an actual poinsettia from the branches of your seasonal spruce, try knitting this tiny treasure of a plant. It is all holiday happiness: no worries if your playful pet gets to it and you don’t even have to remember watering it!

This 7 cm poinsettia was knitted on 1.25 mm double pointed needles (UK 18, US 0000) in Scheepjes Metropolis (016) Karachi, (043) Naples, (044) Darwin, (065) Liverpool and (030) Toulouse. It has been knitted on thinner needles than recommended for the yarn, to give it a denser fabric. All can be done in heavier yarn, on thicker needles and the plant will turn out somewhat larger. It's a medium project with knitting flat and in the round and intarsia work.

Only small amounts of yarns are needed, so this is a great project to use up any scraps you have lying around. It makes a great Christmas ornament.
