This finished stuffed bear stands approximately 34 cm (14 inches) tall and features a charming design with a red body, white scarf detail, and black embroidered facial features. The toy is suitable for intermediate-level knitters and is created as a complete downloadable PDF pattern.

Knitting Techniques Used

This toy is knitted in the round using the classic method of working on four double-pointed needles. Working in the round allows for seamless construction of cylindrical and spherical pieces, which is ideal for creating the bear's body, head, limbs, and other components. The pattern incorporates stuffing techniques during assembly, and finished pieces are seamed together using traditional toy assembly methods. The design also includes embroidery work for facial details and utilizes cotter pin joints for articulation, allowing the bear's limbs to move realistically.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The primary stitch used throughout the Lucky Teddy Bear is stockinette stitch, which creates a smooth, classic fabric surface ideal for stuffed toys. Stockinette stitch in the round produces a clean, professional appearance on the bear's body and all knitted components. The pattern also incorporates basic increases and decreases necessary for shaping the bear's form, including the head, body, and limbs. Materials and Tools Required

Yarn: The pattern calls for DK weight yarn totaling approximately 103 grams. Specifically, 90 g of red yarn forms the bear's body, 10 g of white yarn creates the scarf accent, and 3 g of black yarn is used for the nose detail. The pictured sample was created using Novita Joki (100% wool; 50 g = 105 m) in red heathered for the body and Novita Nordic Wool (100% wool; 50 g = 115 m) in white for the scarf.

Needles and Hooks: Construction requires a set of five double-pointed needles (DPNs) in size 2.5 mm (US 1.5) for the main knitting work. A crochet hook in size 2.5 mm (US 1.5) is also needed for specific finishing techniques.

Stuffing and Assembly Materials: Polyester filling or wool roving serves as the toy's stuffing material. Assembly requires an extra-long sewing needle or threading bodkin for joining pieces together, a tapestry needle for seaming, round-nose pliers for joint assembly, and parts for one cotter pin joint to create movable limbs. Black embroidery floss completes the facial features.
