Product Description
Laia is a sister pattern to Eula (published March 2019) and is a stockinette, buttonless version. It is worked seamlessly from the top down with a cute lace pattern around the top of the yoke. First some short rows are worked back and forth to create a higher back neck and then the yoke is worked in rounds top down to sleeve separation. Some final short rows are worked to finish the yoke shaping right before sleeve stitches are placed on hold, then the body is worked down to the ribbing. For both sleeve length options, held stitches are placed back on the needles to knit the sleeves top down to the cuffs. No additional finishing required.
Gauge: 24 sts x 35 rows over 4" (10cm) square in stockinette stitch. Suggested ease 3-5" (10-13cm)

What is Being Made

Knitting Techniques Used
The Laia pattern employs several key knitting techniques suitable for intermediate-level crafters. The pattern utilizes a backwards loop cast on method to establish stitches on the needle, providing a flexible foundation for the garment. A distinctive technique featured in this design is the creation and resolution of double stitches (DS), where yarn is worked over the needle to the back of the work to create a doubled stitch effect. These double stitches are then resolved by knitting through both legs of the double stitch on right-side rows (kDS) or purling through both legs on wrong-side rows (pDS), treating them as a single stitch during subsequent rows. This textural technique adds visual and tactile interest to the finished sweater.

Yarn requirements vary by size and sleeve length, ranging from approximately 715 to 1,508 meters depending on the chosen version. Standard knitting needles appropriate for 4-ply yarn weight are required to complete this project.
