It can also be done in different solid colours to create wide lace sections separated by background colour stripes.Needles should be adapted to the yarn used and the degree of lacy effect that you desire to achieve.The gauge for pictured shawl was 22 stitches and 35 rows = 10 cm in stockinette blocked, it is not necessary to get the same gauge.
