Sock Construction and Techniques

These socks are worked using the traditional technique of sock knitting on four needles, which allows for seamless, circular construction. The sock is built in distinct sections, beginning with the cuff and progressing downward toward the foot.

The cuff begins with a ribbed cuff section measuring 3 centimeters, worked in a basic rib pattern. This is followed by a longer shaft section that varies by size: 6 centimeters for the smallest size (26/27), 12 centimeters for the medium size (38/39), and 14 centimeters for the largest size (44/45).

The shaft construction employs a mixed stitch technique. The pattern uses rib stitch with slipped stitches (Hebemaschen) on needles 2 and 3, while needles 1 and 4 are worked in stockinette stitch (glatt rechts). This creates a structured, fitted shaft with visual interest. An additional 5 rounds of stockinette stitch are worked over the stitches on needles 1 and 4 after the ribbed section, bringing the total shaft length to between 10 and 18 centimeters depending on size.

A strategic increase is incorporated at the beginning of needle 2 during the final round of the shaft section, worked as a right-leaning increase from the horizontal thread (rechts verschränkt aus dem Querfaden stricken). This increase raises the stitch count on needle 2 in preparation for the foot section.
