This is a 9 page pdf written pattern for a baby or child aviator hat knit in double knit yarn. The pattern has plenty of photos to guide you.
It is a simple cable pattern worked over 6 rows and would be ideal for someone knitting cables for the first time. There is a photo tutorial on the last page showing how to work the cable.
The pattern gives instructions for both knitting flat on two needles and knitting in the round. Choose whichever method you prefer.
The hat fastens under the chin with a button and two buttons hold the aviator flap permanently in place.
Six sizes are given ranging from newborn to 4+ years and it is suitable for either a boy or a girl.
