Product Description
In this pattern you can learn or practice the Twisted German Cast-on technique (also known as Old Norwegian Cast-on), an easy, yet very engaging lace pattern, called Cascading Leaves, and the Kitchener stitch. The socks are knitted from the top down and come with three lengths of toe. Enjoy!
Shoe sizes are based on the following foot lengths: 22.75 (24.25, 25.5, 26.75) cm / 9 (9.5, 10, 10.5)”
Finished sock circumference 18.75 (20, 21.25, 22.5) cm / 7.5 (8, 8.5, 9)” (Note: for a snug fit, the socks are intentionally 3 cm / 1.25” smaller than the wearer’s foot and leg circumferences).
Finished sock leg length (adjustable) 18.25 (18.5, 18.75, 19.25) cm / 7.25 (7.25, 7.5, 7.75)” (measured from the edge of the cuff to the bottom of the heel).
Finished sock foot length (adjustable) 21.5 (23, 24.25, 25.5) cm / 8.5 (9, 9.5, 10)”
Gauge: 32 sts and 48 rnds over Stocking stitch = 10 cm / 4”. Gauge swatch worked on size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 needle, in the round.
Aura Socks by Zsuzsanna Orthodoxou
What Is Being Made
Aura socks is a beginner-friendly knitted sock pattern designed by Zsuzsanna Orthodoxou. This is the updated version of the designer's very first sock design, refined with greater detail and clarity based on years of pattern design experience. The pattern offers flexibility with three different toe length options, allowing knitters to customize the finished garment to their preference.
Knitting Techniques
This pattern teaches and incorporates several essential sock-knitting techniques suitable for both learning and practice:
- Twisted German Cast-On (also known as Old Norwegian Cast-On) – used to begin the socks with a technique that creates a neat, elastic edge ideal for sock cuffs
- Top-Down Construction – the socks are knitted from the cuff downward toward the toe, a popular method that allows for easy fitting adjustments
- Kitchener Stitch – the grafting technique used to seamlessly close the toe, creating an invisible join
- Lace Pattern Integration – the socks feature decorative lace elements worked into the leg and foot sections
Stitches Used
- Stocking Stitch – the primary stitch used for the main body of the socks, creating a smooth, classic fabric
- Cascading Leaves Lace Pattern – an easy yet visually engaging lace motif that adds decorative interest to the sock design while remaining accessible to beginners
