How to work the back post double crochet

Learn how to work the back post double crochet in this easy step-by-step tutorial. This video uses US terminology.

The US back post double crochet (bpdc) is a fab technique to add to your crochet toolkit.

The bpdc creates a beautiful texture on the right side of your fabric by pulling the stitch up and back. With this simple technique in your back pocket you can unlock more fabulous crochet projects and advanced techniques including pretty cabling, ribbing, amigurumi patterns and other snazzy stitches.

Abbreviations

Yo - yarn over

Bpdc - back post double crochet US (UK bptr - back post treble crochet)

How to back post double crochet

Arrive at the point in your row where you would like to bpdc. Yo.

Insert your hook into the space between the post of the current and next stitch in the row below, going through the back. Bring the crochet hook through the next space, going in front of the post.

Yarn over. Pull the yarn back through all the spaces. You should now have 3 loops on your hook.

Yarn over, pull hook through 2 loops. You should now have 2 loops on your hook.

Yarn over, pull hook through last 2 loops. And that’s it!
