I was originally planning to follow the Cathy Bubbles Cardi pattern for my Great Niece and knit a hot air balloon motif for my Great Nephew. I always knit the body of cardis and jumpers in one to avoid sewing the seams, and soon decided that the plan with so many different colours was too complicated. I searched for a fancy stitch to use instead, and found this slip stitch stripes pattern in the "Compendium of Knitting Techniques" by Betty Barden. I'd never used it before and really liked the effect. I shall use it again sometime.
